Seasonal Brews   Micro Brews

The Grapevine has a select choice of imported and domestic brews.

In the Imported Section we carry a variety of primarily Belgian, German and English beer/ales:

  • Trappist ales; e.g., Chimay, Rochefort and Orval.

  • Excellent Belgian brews such as Goudin Carolus (tripel and dark), Duvel, Brigand, Delerium Tremens, Hoegarden, Kasteel, in addition to fresh peach, raspberry lambics from Lindeman’s (Pesche and Framboise), and more.

  • On the British Isle side, we regularly carry Morland’s Speckled Hen and Hen’s Tooth Ales, Whitbred, Hobgoblin Ale, Bass, St Peter’s Ales, Guinness (Ireland),  Skullsplitter (Scotland), and more.

  • From Germany we stock Wurzburger’s light and Hefe-Weissen, Hacker Pschorr’s Weisse and Edelhell (Munich Gold), and Aventinus – a dopplebock wheat with excellent flavors, in addition to others.

Our Domestic section of beers include a delicious array of IPA’s – each one “hoppier” than the next, as well as wonderful and flavorful lagers/ales from across the nation.

We regularly stock Stone Brewery (IPA, Arrogant Bastard Ale, Ruination), Lagunitas (Maximus and IPA), Victory Ales (HopDevil, Golden Monkey, Storm King, Prima Pils, Old Horizontal), Mendocino brews (Red Tail and Blue Heron ales), Bell’s Brewery from Michigan (Two-hearted Ale, Cherry Stout, Kalamazoo Stout, Consecrator Doppelbock Ale), Dogfish Head (one of our favorites – (60 minute, 90 and 120 seasonally, as well as Aprihop, Punkin Ale, others), Anderson Valley brews, Smuttynose, Flying Dog, Abita brews (Turbo Dog, Purple Haze), and more….

There’s always a new beer or two so please check our “What’s New” section to discover what seasonals may have arrived from the above excellent brewers for you to try. For your convenience and in case you want to imbibe as soon as you get home, we keep quite a few of our beers chilled in our cooler in the back and you can call ahead if you want us to chill a six!  As always in the Grapevine, you can mix and match any six beers and receive a 5% discount on your creation.  These make for excellent gifts and provide you a great way to sample all our beers.

HOW TO POUR A PERFECT HEAD

What you want is a head that is fluffy and even.

Beer experts have (happily) spent inordinate amounts of time trying to achieve their goal, and here are the results of hours and hours of research:

  1. The perfect beer has a well-developed head.  Many people tilt the glass and pour slowly, only backing off the angle when the glass is just about filled.  Instead, when the glass is about 2/3 filled, lift the bottle and back off on the angle so the beer comes out in a thin stream.  Fill the glass until the head has pushed passed the crown, reserving the last bit of beer in the bottle.

  2. Take a knife with a straight blade that is longer than the diameter of the glass, then slide it along the top of the glass to slice off the head.  This will leave the head even with the glass's rim, obviously.

  3. Pour the last bit of beer into the glass using the same "thin stream" method described in step #1.  This will once again push up the head, but it will be symmetrical with that fluffy kind of head that is so mouth-watering!
